Ultimate Potential

Shantipura–Khoraj GIDC Corridor, SH17, Gujarat

Project Overview

The Shantipura Chokdi to Khoraj GIDC Chokdi section of State Highway-17 forms a vital industrial link between the Sardar Patel Ring Road and the Sanand–Khoraj industrial cluster within the Ahmedabad–Viramgam–Maliya Toll Road network. Spanning about 28.75 km, it connects key GIDCs, logistics hubs, and DMIC-influenced zones. The Concessionaire appointed Translink Infrastructure Consultants Pvt. Ltd. as the Detailed Design Consultant for six-lane widening and improvement works including service roads, interchanges, and drainage design.

The design scope includes Good for Construction drawings compliant with IRC and MoRTH standards. The corridor lies at the heart of Gujarat’s emerging semiconductor and advanced-manufacturing ecosystem—with recent Cabinet approvals for semiconductor units by Tata Electronics, CG Power, and Kaynes Semicon in Sanand—expected to intensify freight and commuter movement along this route.

Challenges

The corridor experiences intense industrial and freight traffic from Sanand, Bol, and Khoraj GIDCs, leading to congestion, pavement distress, and safety risks. Numerous access points, built-up sections, and high-density junctions—especially near Sanand and Bol—required careful geometric design.

Utility corridors, limited right-of-way, and active toll operations demanded that all designs remain within the approved Corridor of Impact while maintaining continuous traffic flow for industrial and local users.

Solutions

Translink implemented an integrated digital engineering approach using Civil 3D, IIT-PAVE, and traffic simulation tools to finalize alignment, pavement design, and junction layouts. Median-side widening was proposed to minimize land acquisition, complemented by grade-separated junctions at Shantipura, Sanand, Bol GIDC, and Khoraj.

Detailed designs for storm-water drainage, utility relocation, and road-safety features were developed through continuous coordination with the Concessionaire and Independent Engineer, resulting in a construction-ready, cost-optimized solution balancing durability and safety.

Impact

As Detailed Design Consultant to the Concessionaire, Translink’s work ensures that the upgraded corridor will serve as a high-capacity industrial artery supporting Gujarat’s semiconductor and manufacturing growth. The corridor will cater to increased freight from new semiconductor and EV-component plants in Sanand and adjoining GIDCs, enhancing logistics efficiency and regional connectivity.

The optimized design reduces land and utility conflicts while improving capacity, safety, and resilience. With construction progressing, the project is poised to become a critical mobility spine enabling the state’s transition toward high-tech and sustainable industrial infrastructure.
