Ultimate Potential

Major Bridge on Bhadar River, Gujarat

Project Overview

As a part of capacity augmentation of Gadu-Porbandar corridor, additional two lane bridge over Bhadar river proposed to incorporate high traffic pressure and freight movement.

Translink Infrastructure Consultants Pvt. Ltd. was appointed for the detailed design consultant, including hydrology, foundation design, superstructure configuration, and preparation of Good-for-Construction (GFC) drawings in accordance with IRC and MoRTH standards.

Challenges

The creek’s tidal influence and saline conditions posed risks of corrosion and long-term durability challenges for reinforcement and concrete.

The new bridge needed to maintain hydraulic alignment and structural stability without impacting the foundations and flow conditions around the operational bridge.

Solutions

Translink selected corrosion-resistant concrete grades, and protective surface treatments to ensure long-term durability in the coastal environment. A matched pier alignment and deep pile foundation system were designed to maintain uniform hydraulic flow and avoid affecting the existing bridge.

Hydraulic and scour assessments were carried out for tidal variations and flood events, and standardized components were used to enable efficient construction and maintenance.

Impact

The parallel bridge doubles effective capacity of the corridor, easing congestion and improving travel reliability between Gadu and Porbandar.

The design ensures long service life in coastal conditions, safeguards the performance of both bridges, and strengthens year-round connectivity supporting local trade and regional mobility.
